Consent is a continuing conversation
Consent is not a single yes given at the door. It continues through the session and can become more specific as you learn what feels comfortable. You never need a therapeutic explanation for a boundary.
No-touch work is still a complete choice
Reiki is often offered with hands lightly placed on or held above the body. NCCIH notes that Reiki has not been clearly shown effective for a health-related purpose and that the proposed energy field is not scientifically established. Read the overview. Touch preference does not change that evidence boundary.
Be specific before the session begins
You can ask which areas might be touched, whether blankets are adjusted and how the practitioner will check in. “No touch,” “hands and feet only,” or “please ask each time” are all complete instructions.
Changing your mind is not a disruption
If something changes, say stop, move a hand away or sit up. A grounded practitioner responds without disappointment or persuasion. Read consent and comfort, grounded interpretation, or Lauren’s approach.
