Experience and explanation are different layers
A session can feel deeply meaningful without requiring a medical explanation. “My body felt warm,” “I became emotional,” or “the ritual felt spiritually significant” are descriptions of experience. “A blockage was removed” or “my illness was treated” makes a claim about mechanism or outcome that the experience alone cannot establish.
What the evidence overview says
The National Center for Complementary and Integrative Health states that Reiki has not been clearly shown effective for a health-related purpose and that there is no scientific evidence for the energy field proposed in traditional accounts. Read the overview. This does not invalidate personal meaning; it limits what can responsibly be claimed as science.
Use language that stays close to what happened
Try three layers: what you noticed, what it meant to you, and what remains uncertain. For example: “I felt warmth in my chest. I experienced that as comforting. I do not know what caused it.” This language allows curiosity without turning a sensation into diagnosis.
Grounded language protects spiritual freedom
Clear boundaries make room for spirituality because no one has to accept a single explanation. Energy work should not delay medical or mental-health assessment. Continue with interpreting sensations, choosing a practitioner, or Lauren’s approach.
Ask what the experience supports next
After describing the session, consider whether it supports a modest next step: rest, a conversation, journaling or an appointment with a licensed professional. Avoid using the experience to diagnose yourself or someone else. A practitioner can reflect what you report without declaring certainty about your organs, trauma history, relationships or future. If a sensation is painful, new or persistent, medical assessment is more appropriate than attributing it to an energetic release.
