Reiki, polarity and craniosacral work: how the experiences differ

These practices are often grouped together as energy work, but a session can feel quite different depending on what is included. Understanding the differences helps you ask for what suits you.

Reiki: attention and stillness

Reiki is a Japanese energy-healing tradition in which a practitioner places hands lightly on or near the body. At Healing Rituals, Lauren’s Usui Reiki training informs this part of the experience. You remain clothed and can discuss whether any contact is welcome.

People choose it for different reasons: spiritual connection, receiving care without much conversation or time to be still. You do not have to adopt the practitioner’s beliefs to describe your preferences or decide whether the experience feels right.

Polarity and craniosacral-inspired work

Polarity therapy has its own tradition of energy balancing and body contact. Ask which techniques a particular session will use rather than assuming it is the same as Reiki or massage.

Craniosacral-inspired work here emphasizes gentle contact and quiet body awareness. If you are specifically seeking clinical craniosacral therapy for pain or another condition, ask about the practitioner’s qualifications, scope and the treatment being proposed. Similar language does not always describe the same service.

What does energy clearing mean?

In this practice, clearing is a way to frame the intention to feel less burdened, more present or more connected to yourself. It can include sound, imagery and intuitive attention. You are welcome to use spiritual language or simply describe how you feel.

An image that arises in a session can be meaningful without being treated as a factual memory. This matters particularly with ancestral, Akashic or past-life themes: exploration should not pressure you to accept a story about yourself.

Choose by comfort, not intensity

Before a session, decide what contact you welcome, what areas you want left alone and how much conversation you prefer. There is no requirement to have a dramatic sensation, emotional release or a particular interpretation.

If you are considering energy work in Aspen or traveling from Carbondale, use the inquiry to clarify those preferences and the session location. An attentive conversation is a useful first step before choosing a modality.
